CalKhata Privacy Policy

Last updated:

This Privacy Policy explains how Baluwa Labs (“we”, “us” or “our”) handles information in connection with CalKhata (the “App”), a calorie and nutrition tracking app for mobile devices.

CalKhata is currently in development. This policy describes the App as it works today. We will update it before the App is made available on Google Play, and before any feature that sends information off your phone is added.

Summary

  • Everything you enter in CalKhata is stored only on your phone.
  • The App has no account or sign-in, and it does not send your information to us or to anyone else.
  • The App contains no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting services.
  • You can delete everything the App holds by clearing its data or uninstalling it.

Information We Collect

Information you enter in the App

To work out your daily targets and keep your food diary, the App stores what you enter, including:

  • your profile: sex, year of birth, height, weight, activity level and goal, and the targets calculated from them;
  • your kitchen settings: the size of your katori, glass and roti, and how much oil your household usually cooks with;
  • your food diary: the foods and drinks you log, how much, how they were cooked, the meal and the date, and any note you add to a day;
  • water and body-weight entries;
  • foods, recipes and meals you create or save, and the foods you mark as favourites;
  • any report you make that a food’s name is wrong;
  • searches that found no food, counted so that the foods people look for can be added in a later version;
  • your preferences, such as language and theme.

Your food diary and body weight are information about your health. They stay on your phone, and we do not receive them.

Information collected automatically

The App does not collect device identifiers, location, usage data, diagnostics or crash reports, and it does not send information over the internet.

Permissions

The App does not ask for any permissions while you use it. Its install declares vibration, for feedback when you tap, and internet access, which is reserved for the planned features described below and is not used today.

How Information Is Used

Information you enter is used on your phone to:

  • calculate your calorie, protein, carbohydrate, fat, fibre and water targets;
  • estimate the nutrition of what you log, with a range and the reasons behind it;
  • show your daily and weekly summaries, your weight trend and how much cooking oil you used;
  • remember your settings, recent foods, favourites and saved meals.

We do not receive your information, and we do not sell or share it.

Data Storage

All App data is kept in a private database on your phone that other apps cannot read. Android’s automatic backup is turned off for CalKhata, so your diary is not copied to Google Drive or any other cloud backup unless you choose to copy it yourself.

Backups and exports you make

In Settings you can create a backup file, and in Progress you can export your diary as a CSV file. The App hands these files to Android’s share sheet, and they go wherever you choose to send or save them, such as your email, a cloud drive or a messaging app. We do not receive them. A backup file contains your whole diary and profile and is not encrypted, so keep it somewhere you trust.

Planned Features

Some features planned for CalKhata would send information off your phone. None of them is in the App today. Each will be optional, and before any of them is released this policy will say exactly what is sent, to whom and why:

  • an optional account, to back up your diary and use it on more than one phone;
  • an optional choice to share a food or recipe you created with the CalKhata team, so it can be checked and added for everyone;
  • a check for an updated food list;
  • crash reports and usage statistics, only if you agree to them.

To be completed before release: for each planned feature that ships, the information sent, the service that receives it, where it is stored, how long it is kept and how to delete it.

Third-Party Services

CalKhata will be distributed through Google Play, which is operated by Google and subject to the Google Privacy Policy.

The App itself contains no third-party advertising, analytics, crash-reporting or sign-in services.

Data Retention

Your information stays on your phone until you delete it.

  • You can edit or delete individual entries, foods and meals in the App. A deleted item disappears at once, but its record is kept on your phone marked as deleted, so that restoring an older backup cannot bring it back.
  • Clearing the App’s storage in Android settings, or uninstalling the App, permanently deletes everything the App has stored on your phone, including those records.
  • Backup and export files you saved elsewhere are not affected. Delete them where you saved them.

Because we do not receive your information, we hold none of it. You can still contact us at support@baluwalabs.com with any question about your data.

Children’s Privacy

CalKhata is not directed at children, and it does not calculate calorie targets for anyone under 18. To be confirmed before release: the App’s target age group as declared in Google Play Console.

If you believe that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

Security

The App’s database is protected by Android’s app sandbox, which keeps it private to CalKhata. Anyone who can unlock your phone can open the App and see your diary. Backup and export files are not encrypted, so the protection they have is that of the place you keep them.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example when the App’s features or data practices change. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Where changes are significant, we will take reasonable steps to let you know.
